Step 1
Sectioning the Head
Begin by sectioning client's hair into five areas.
Most important is sectioning a "free zone". Be sure to leave at least 1 to 1.5 inches on the outer perimeter of the head. The exact amount will depend on the density of the hair. Thinner hair will require the larger perimeter. This allows for the extensions to be undetectable.
Step 2
One Section
Measure off a piece of extension and cut to desired width. The extension width should never exceed 4 inches for maximum hold. Lay extension hair inverted on table showing the polyurethane attachment at the bottom. Apply red-line tape just above the attachments perforated holes, and blue-line tape just below the holes.
Step 3
Pick up a Hair Extension
Open along the perforations by gently pulling on both ends. Work in clean horizontal partings. Place hair extension with perforation lying exactly on top of the horizontal parting. using thumb and forefinger at opposite ends to hold firmly in place.
Step 4
Remove adhesive backing
Use the thumb and forefinger at opposite ends of the extension to hold firmly in place. Remove the backing of the blue-tape with the end of the pull-through needle. Starting in the center of the attachment, pull through hair working outwards. As you pull through the hair be sure to adhere to the blue tape.
TIP: Take a thin bit of hair from just outside the end of the extension and adhere it to the tape. Do this on both sides. It helps prevent slipping and keeps the ends from lifting.
Step 5
Press Firmly
Once hair has been pulled through all perforations and adhered to blue-line tape, use the end of pull-through needle to remove backing of red-line tape. Still holding the extension securely, flip hair back over into a natural position. Do not release your hold until contact is made to the adhesive. Firmly press on the entire strip to create an even seal. TIP: You can always go back and add additional strips quite easily. Sometimes less is better.
Step 6
Press Firmly
Once hair has been pulled through all perforations and adhered to blue-line tape, use the end of pull-through needle to remove backing of red-line tape. Still holding the extension securely, flip hair back over into a natural position. Do not release your hold until contact is made to the adhesive. Firmly press on the entire strip to create an even seal. TIP: You can always go back and add additional strips quite easily. Sometimes less is better.
Step 7
Finishing Up
When Sections 1 and 2 are complete move up to Sections 3 and 4. It is strongly suggested that you use a brick laying technique in these sections in order to allow the hair to lay naturally. It is also suggested to work lighter as you move up the head. When Sections 3 and 4 are complete, move to Section 5. This should be the lightest amount of hair extensions used. TIP: If you are uncertain of an extension location, first place it in the desired position (by holding or clipping it) to see how it looks. Remember that you have tremendous versatility with this product. You can cut it and make it fit anywhere.
